Bio

Satyarth Mishra Sharma is a researcher, musician, artist, and creative technologist based in Moscow.

His music project Trophallaxis brings an algorithmic approach to Indian classical music, combining livecoded electronic music with electroacoustic experiments. As a tabla player, he seeks full cyborg integration with his instrument through DIY hardware and software while leaving its soul intact.

He is also the founder of the visual duo Cactus Juice, which integrates generative live-coding and chaotic physical processes.

His musical and artistic practice focuses on combining his two loves of tabla and cycling with otherworldly modulations and feedback loops. In his academic life, he’s recently completed his PhD in machine learning applied to genetics.

Cadence Clock: Rhythm of the Streets is an immersive audio-visual experience navigating city streets on a fixed-gear bicycle. By equipping an otherwise minimalistic track bike with cadence and gyroscopic sensors, we attempt to augment the viewer’s senses to translate the visceral, connected, and synchronized flow of fixed gear cycling through city traffic into perceivable sights and sounds.

The rider’s movements, navigation style and decision making - modulated by the city’s traffic patterns, geography, and infrastructure are emphasized through audio-visual synthesis and weaved into a story exploring the rhythm of our city streets, who they are for, and how they can be reclaimed.

The City Speaks | 2025, Moscow, Russia

A meander through the urban soundscape. The work consists of field recordings by the participants of the laboratory 'Symphony of the big city', combined with the p5.js library and OpenStreetMap data. A 'soundosaur' drifts around the Marfino district of Moscow following a weighted random walk, triggering sounds as it passes locations where they were recorded. Thus, every time the soundosaur assembles a unique, generative audio collage. This soundscape is hyperreal - it exists beyond the boundaries of existing locations and includes sounds outside the audible range - ultrasound, infrasound, electromagnetic oscillations, vibrations of water, soil, concrete.

Taal Spiral

The Taal Spiral is an installation and performance system designed to visualize the cyclical nature of rhythms in Indian classical music for live audiences. Much of the beauty of Indian classical music lies in its mathematical complexity, which is heavily rooted in modular arithmetic. While untrained listeners can intuitively feel this a build and release of tension, the exact musical mechanics often remain hidden. The Taal Spiral addresses this barrier, acting as a visual anchor that demystifies the inner workings of the time cycle and allows audiences to follow the performance more closely.

The technical implementation relies on an interconnected, real-time ecosystem. Tabla hits are detected within VCV Rack inspired by spectral flux-based onset detection algorithms. These audio triggers drive live visuals coded in p5.js and Hydra, while the accompanying generative melodic sequences are driven by Tidal Cycles.

A rope web spun between trees in a forest, providing a chillout zone for the visitors of the festival. The web is equipped with gyroscopes that capture movement data, which is used for live modulation of sounds and visuals, becoming a playful interactive sound sculpture.
